The sides have defended the titles they won last year.

Rwandese sides APR were no match for champions General Service Unit (GSU) and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as the Kenyan sides carried the day to defend the Nyerere Cup men's and women's titles respectively.

Daniel Bor-coached DCI saw off APR women 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25- 15) while their male counterparts GSU retained the title following a 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 25- 21) win over APR men.

"It was a good game, not very competitive but I am happy the team got a chance to play together in a competitive setting. Some of the players had joined the team after the national league had been put on hold so this was a perfect platform to gauge them," Bor said.

The tactician says that while his side has won the Tanzanian championship, they have their work cut out ahead of the season.

"We have areas that need firming. Our intensity of play and coordination was shaky and it is something we will need to work on.

Additionally, some players did not perform at their peak and that could have stemmed from there being a breakdown in our transition, especially from setting and attack.

We head back to Kenya and get down to business immediately as there is a meeting set to decide the way forward for this season's league that is yet to conclude," added Bor.

His GSU counterpart Gideon Tarus maintains that his charges are ready for the challenge the new season will present as they look to bag a sixth consecutive league title.
